Both writers, the Spanish and the American, have points in common. Very
young, they felt the vocation of letters; they cultivated all literary genres; they were successful
authors, cosmopolitan and knowledgeable in several languages; they had contact with important
personalities both from social life and from the literary world of their time. In addition, his
critical reflections on the short story are similar and complementary, enjoying great modernity.
