This article analyzes the role of the writer Pardo Bazán as an intellectual who
examines and denounces the causes and consequences of the crisis of the end of the nineteenth
century, provoked in Spain by the military, political and moral defeat of 1898. Among the most
obvious consequences, a writer points out the particularist or rexionalist challenge of Catalonia,
the Basque Country and Galicia, suggesting different and original solutions.
