This contribution proposes a reflection on a topic that from the second half of
the 19th century had a growing presence in the press: the role of women writers in society. More
specifically, the focus is on a form of gender discrimination and structural violence, that is, the
impossibility for women to be accepted as academicians by the Real Academia Española. Some
articles that belong to the journalistic genre of the epistolary essay point out several aspects of
